Homebound Captures the Untold Struggles of Millions During the Pandemic
Six years ago, when COVID-19 hits country with a major crisis, schools, colleges, and factories were closed , roads were deserted, and Section 144 was imposed, transportation was halted, millions of migrant workers lost their jobs and were forced to walk back to their hometowns. Many died from hunger and dehydration rather than the virus itself. On May 20, 2020, a photograph went viral in The New York Times taken by Kashmiri journalist Basharat Peer . It showed a young man holding his ill friend in his lap, hoping someone would come to help. Five years later, filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan made a movie based on this real incident.
